NEWS (7/11/08)

12 07 2008

News today came from Anime Expo 08, and ANN. As there is a lot of news regarding liscensing, I’ll be splitting the news articles by compaines

Bandai Entertainment
– Bandai liscenses Hayate the Combat Butler (Hayate no Gotoku!) at Anime Expo 2008.  Releases dates, cast lists to be decided.

– The new English voicecast of Gurren Lagann was announced.  On the list, Yuri Lowenthal (Suzaku in Code Geass) voicing Simon, and Johnny Yong Bosch (Ichigo from Bleach) voicing Rossiu.  The first nine episodes (sub-only) has already been released in a two disc set, and the dub version is set to air on Sci-Fi Channel’s AniMonday Block on July 28th.

– English voicecast of Gundam 00 also released.  As for other news regarding Gundam 00, the show will air on Sci-Fi Channel starting November 17th.

Funimation, ADV, and Geneon
– Funimation releases the voice cast of Ouran High School Host Club.  I haven’t heard anything regarding release dates of the first DVD.

– Funimation acquires distribution rights to over 30 titles that were licensed by the now-defunct Geneon USA.  These titles include Shakugan no Shana, Zero no Tsukaima (Eng. The Familiar of Zero), and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (Eng. When They Cry – Higurashi).

– Funimation also got the license rights to over 30 ADV titles.  These include Air, Kanon, and Welcome to the NHK!.

– 4 Titles not acquired by Funimation gets dropped by ADV.  These titles are: Best Student Counci, 5 Centimeters Per Second, Innocent Venus, and Robotech.

Kadokawa USA
– Kadokawa announces the licensing of 6 animes.  These titles are

  • Junjou Romantica (YAOI warning)
  • Spice and Wolf
  • Rental Magica
  • My Heartfelt Sympathy
  • Ninomiya-kun
  • H2O ~Footprints in the Sand~
  • Wagaya no Oinara-sama (Eng. Coo ~ Our Guardian)

Note that Kadokawa USA doesn’t actually distribute titles, rather the distribution rights are given to partner companies, so release dates are set.

– Over the last weekend, a document was leaked that had crew information regarding tentative Darker Than BLACK and Fullmetal Alchemist sequels.  BONES President Masahiko Minami later released a statement saying that the document was a fake.  However, he stopped short of striking down the possibility of the sequels.

If there is anything I forgot, made a mistake on, or anything worth mentioning, feel free to leave a comment!
