Fall 2008 Anime Season Preview

1 09 2008

For this version of the Fall 08 Preview, I asked my friends (with interests in anime) to also write down thoughts about the fall shows. The post will be updated as more friends add their thoughts.  As for ranking my interest, the percentages I used in the Summer 08 preview broke down.  So this time, instead of having Interest Percentage, I’m going to have “Interest Tiers”. It’s broken down into 5 tiers, with Tier 1 basically meaning that I’ll definitely check out the first episode, and Tier 5 meaning that it’s a fat chance that I’ll even consider watching it.

Once episodes start coming out, I’ll go ahead and create another “Pilot Episode Review” post.  I’ll try to keep this article up to date as more info and images are released.

All summaries are taken from MyAnimeList unless noted otherwise.

Reviewers:
– Tekky (Gender: M) – My thoughts are under “Thoughts”

Akane Iro ni Somaru Saka

Genres: Romance, Harem, Comedy

Story: In order to protect a girl from danger, Junichi Nagase is forced to kiss her. Shocked and disgusted, and without understanding what just happened or why, she screams at him and tells him to “just die!” As it turns out, the girl, Yuuhi Katagiri, is a new transfer student and, much to the surprise of Junichi and his younger sister Minato, their father arranged for Yuuhi to be Junichi’s future wife! Of course, getting married to “that perverted idiot” is the absolute last thing Yuuhi wants! Junichi’s crazy school life with his tsundere bride-apparent has begun!

Reason(s) to watch: Akasaka brings a huge cast of voice acting talent.  Among the cast is Kugimiya Rie, Hirano Aya, and Tanaka Rie

Thoughts: A lot of people are getting turned off due to this being another eroge adaptation. I mean, let’s admit… the majority of eroge adaptations end up mediocre. Yet I keep watching them… why?  Good artwork, and the potential for good romance.  That, plus my two favorite seiyuus in one anime, is enough for me to check it out.
TIER: 2
Blogging Chance: 55%

angelicmaskYet another eroge adaptation with still the same brand of artwork and loose plot. I see some potential for story and character development, but the concept still seems fairly tried and true. Maybe it’s just me, but I think it’s starting to get a little old. We’ll see if there are any surprises in store here. (Although I sort of doubt it.)

anritsi: Why is this labeled as a harem anime? *is wary* Well. I’ll watch this if it gets good reviews for the first couple of episodes.

ph33lth3lov3: Eh.. I’m kind of intrigued. I would give the first episode a shot, but I have more important things to get to.

Battle Spirits

Genres: Shounen, Card Game, Action

StoryBased on the Bandai’s highly popular card game, this anime is set up in collaboration for the 20th anniversary of Bandai card games. It is reputed to have fast game play and immediate turnarounds. The animators plan to incorporate computer graphics to portray the battles from the card game. (Taken from THAT Animeblog)

Thoughts: Once upon a time there was a show called Yu-Gi-Oh!…. AND IT SUCKED.
TIER: 5
Blogging Chance: 0%

angelicmask: My days of children’s card games are over. Sure, I was a fan of Yu-Gi-Oh! at first, but those are days long gone. Here’s to yet another short-lived card fad for the youth! (Oi.)

anritsi: Sounds like Yu-gi-oh.

ph33lth3lov3: I don’t think I could handle another Yu-Gi-Oh… the abridged is enough for me.

Bihada Ichizoku

Genres: N/A

Story: There is a World Beautiful-Skin Competition (WBC) to which the 3 billion women of the world aspire. Carrying on the 300-year legacy of the competition are the twin Bihada sisters, Sara and Saki.

Thoughts: A story about cosmetics and beauty?… I’ll Pass
TIER: 5
Blogging Chance: 0%

angelicmask: *Does a double-take at the picture* Catwoman has made her way into anime. This is gonna get ugly.

anritsi: The World Beautiful-Skin Competition? Plus, promo art looks like a sad attempt of Cat Woman. um. nty.

ph33lth3lov3: No thank you. Why does she need a catsuit for a beauty competition?

Casshern SINS

Genres: Action, Sci-Fi

StoryTetsuya Azuma (東鉄也), also known as Casshern, is a cybernetic neoroider (新造人間, Shinzō Ningen, lit. “neo-human”) who turned himself into a cyborg for the purpose of hunting down and destroying robots that have taken over the world. His late biological father, Dr. Azuma, was the inventor of the robots that were originally intended to serve humankind, but mutinied en masse when their cold logic concluded that the good of the Earth Ecosystem required the destruction of the human race. Casshern and his robotic dog, Friender, join forces with a beautiful girl named Luna to battle the robots led by their brutal boss known as the Black King.

Reasons To Watch: Casshern SINS is remake of a popular 70s anime.

Thoughts: While remakes are cool and all… this anime just doesn’t have what I’m interested in in the sci-fi genre
TIER: 4
Blogging Chance: 10-15%

angelicmask: Sounds exactly like the movie “I, Robot” with a more dragged out plot. Could be interesting, but sounds a little trite. Maybe if there was an added philosophical dilemma?

anritsi: Sounds like I Robot + random anime elements thrown in.

ph33lth3lov3: I think the concept is interesting, but is influenced not only by the original series but also by iRobot. After watching the trailer, I don’t think it’s for me, but it could be good. Again, I would watch the first episode, but probably no more.

Chäos;HEAd

Genres: Psychological, Mystery, Horror

Story: The original game’s premise revolves around a high school student, Takumi Nishijō, who unknowingly walks into the scene of a gruesome murder on his way home. More mysterious events starts happening afterwards as more gruesome murders occurs in the area. Takumi struggles to cope with reality and the delusions he experiences as he tries to avoid being getting caught by the perpetrator behind the chain of murders.

Thoughts: The last murder mystery bishoujo game anime adaptation to come out was a little series called Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. The combined two seasons ranks as one of my favorite animes of all time.  This series almost seems to be a Higurashi in modern day Shibuya.  I’m sold.
TIER: 1
Blogging Chance 85-90%

angelicmask: Definitely sounds interesting, what with the major Higurashi vibes. And, hey, I’m a sucker for psychological drama. It really keeps you engaged and on your toes. This is certainly one to look forward to.

anritsi: Maybe. The summary reminds me a bit of Metro Station. I’m prolly just weird.

ph33lth3lov3: Those big blades have me interested. What are they being used for? I must watch and find out. Having just finished Higurashi seasons 1 and 2, I look forward to seeing this one.

Clannad ~After Story~

Genres: Romance, Drama, Slice-of-life

Story: Sequel season to the anime adaptation of Key’s visual novel, Clannad.

Reason(s) to Watch: Odds are, if you’re watched the first season, you’re gonna watch this as well.

Thoughts: The first season currently ranks as my 6th favorite anime… And all signs point to the After Story being even better. (Clannad game fans say that the After Story is the best part of the game)
TIER: 1
Blogging Chance: 100%

angelicmask: I’m still only half-way through the first season (which I like so far), so I can’t say a whole lot about this one.

anritsi: Still have to finish watching the first Clannad. >.>

ph33lth3lov3: I’m very much a n00b, and haven’t finished Clannad season 1. In fact, I think I’ve seen four episodes at most. However, I am drawn to beautiful animes, and if the poster art is any indication, I may just power through Clannad season 1 and watch this one too. (season one was interesting, after all)

ef – a tale of melodies

Genres: Romance, Drama, Mystery

Story: Sequel to the SHAFT produced anime series, ef – a tale of memories.

Reason(s) to Watch: It’s a sequel, fans of the first season, will want to watch this as well.

Thoughts: Let’s see… I posted 2 entries that talked about the new season… The first season is my favorite anime… and I wonder if I’ll check out season 2.
TIER: 1
Blogging Chance: 100%

angelicmask: First season: gorgeous, emotional, engaging. This next season: a bit more explanation, I hope.

anritsi: Still have to finish watching A tale of Memories. *cough*

ph33lth3lov3: eh… I didn’t finish the first episode of Ef- A Tale of Memories (season 1)… so I probably won’t see this one, either. But I will give it some credit, as it has captivated my friend Tekky here. : D

Ga-Rei -Zero-

Genres: Supernatural, Action, Shounen (At least, the manga was)

Story: No Summary Available

Thoughts: The reason why I didn’t post a summary even though I’ve read the manga… is because the anime is a VERY loose adaptation.  So loose that they turned a supernatural Bleach-like manga into a sci-fi anime, complete with their own aircraft(?!).  I enjoyed the manga… but the anime outlook makes me pretty pessimistic.
TIER: 3
Blogging Chance: 25-30%

angelicmask: Sounds a bit Gundam-esque from what I can tell. Cool if you’re into that, but I’m not sure I am.

anritsi: whee shounen. Not very into space stories though.

ph33lth3lov3: … It doesn’t look very fleshed out… I’ll pass.

Gundam 00 Second Season

Genres: Mecha, Sci-Fi, Military

Story4 years since the final battle between Celestial Being and the UN Forces. Humanity, having established the Earth Sphere Federation, forms an independent security preservation force, Arrows, separate from the formal Federation army to further unify nations and the will of mankind. But the reality was the inhumane oppression of anti-government powers, doctrines & ideologies in the name of unity. Saji Crossroad, who followed the path to becoming a space engineer to keep a promise to Louise Halevy and fulfill a dream, is also compelled to become involved in Federation government reform. Meanwhile, Setsuna F. Seiei, surviving the final battle 4 years ago, saw the future of the world that had been changed by Celestial Being. With the defeat of guardian Alejandro Corner, he dreamed of a peaceful world without conflict. But before his own eyes was the reality of the continuing strain on peace, the oppression caused by Arrows. He decides once more to fight with Gundam, the power with the potential to change the world. Where will Setsuna’s and Saji’s paths take them as the world is set into motion once more?

Reason(s) to Watch: It’s a flippin Gundam sequel… need I say more?

Thoughts: Gundam 00 has a nice mix of politics, drama, and mecha action.  It had an interesting interpretation of how our future will turn out.  Many didn’t like this, I for one, did.  That being said, Gundam 00 is probably the most realist Gundam series out there… and I’ll definitely be checking out season 2.
TIER: 1
Blogging Chance: 80-85%

angelicmask: I’ve never been a Gundam fan. I’ve never watched Gundam, for that matter. I don’t think I’m gonna start now.

anritsi: Have never watched the first one. *cough*cough*

ph33lth3lov3: I’ve seen one of the Gundam movies, but aside from that I haven’t seen much Gundam at all. I did enjoy it, though, so maybe I’ll check out Gundam 00 season 1 and work from there.

Hakushaku to Yosei

Genres: Magic, Fantasy, Adventure

StorySet in 19th century England this is the story of the 17-year old “fairy doctor” Lydia Carlton. Her life gets thrown into confusion after meeting Edgar, the count of the Blue Knights. She agrees to help him search for the precious sword that is his family heirloom.

Thoughts: It has shoujo artwork… but it isn’t classified as shoujo.  And the cat with the hat reminds me a bit too much of Alice in Wonderland… I’m mixed on this show.
TIER: 3
Blogging Chance 25-30%

angelicmask: I like the artwork, but the story seems trite. I’ll likely check it out just to see where it goes.

anritsi: oo~! Pretty… Also, The Cat Returns, anyone?

ph33lth3lov3: +1 for period-piece, -1 for giant suited cat. I’ll pass for now.

Hazama no Uta

Genres: N/A

Story: No Summary Available

Thoughts: It’s only be speculated that this’ll air in the fall… though the likelihood of that is slowly dropping.  Which is a shame, cause the promotional pictures all have beautiful artwork
TIER: 2
Blogging Chance: 50-55%

angelicmask: Artwork seems good, but I don’t know much else about it.

anritsi: Pretty art. I dunno.

ph33lth3lov3: (looked at a poorly translated summary) I like the play between devil/angel, brother/sister. It lends to a very interesting plot… so I look forward to it, whenever it comes out. And the art is very nice!

Hokuto no Ken – Raoh Gaiden Ten no Haoh

Genres: Action

Story: Based on the manga by Youkow Osada. Focuses on the background story of Raoh, brother and enermy of Kenshiro.

Reason(s) to Watch: Hokuto no Ken might be better known by it’s English name, Fist of the North Star.

Thoughts: I haven’t seen the previous seasons, and it may be TOO gar for me…
TIER: 4
Blogging Chance 10-15%

angelicmask: *Agrees with Tekky on this one*

anritsi: There are previous seasons? ><

ph33lth3lov3: It seems like it’s based off of George Wells’ “The Time Machine,” in that the strong prey on the weak. However, this anime breaks from that when the weak use a special form of martial arts to defeat the strong-bodied. After reading the summary available on wikipedia, it may have too much martial arts for me to take interest. ::shrug::

Hyakko

Genres: School Life, Comedy

Story: This slice-of-life slapstick school comedy story follows the antics of four high school freshman girls, after they enroll into a huge private academy that teaches every grade from elementary school to high school. (Taken from THAT Animeblog)

Reason(s) to Watch: Hirano Aya voice acts as Nonomura Ayumi.

Thoughts: First of all, the artwork is appalling.  All the promotional images so far have not done much to convince me to watch the show.  I’m mixed.
TIER: 3
Blogging Chance: 20-25%

angelicmask: I’m not huge on slapstick comedy and the artwork is sadly disappointing. I highly doubt I’ll be watching this one.

anritsi: School animes, eh? I’ll watch the first ep and see.

ph33lth3lov3: Could be cute.. I would watch, but as Tekky said, there isn’t too much information on it (in english, at least) for me to know if I will like it or not.

Jigoku Shoujo Mitsuganae

Genres: Psychological, Mystery, Supernatural

Story: Third Season of the Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl) anime series.

Thoughts: Unless I somehow watch the first two seasons in the upcoming weeks… I probably won’t be watching this.
TIER: 4
Blogging Chance: 5%

angelicmask: This Hell Girl anime series actually seems kinda interesting. I may check it out sometime. But … not now. >___<

anritsi: 2 previous seasons? ? Also, art reminds me of Sayonara Zetsubo Sensei, which freaked me out sometimes.

ph33lth3lov3: Okay. Now, the Hell Girl series is something I want to see. I’m glad to know they have a third season, but I haven’t seen the others yet either. ><

Junjou Romantica Second Season

Genres: Romance, Yaoi, Drama

Story: Continuation of the spring yaoi series.

Thoughts: Yaoi Sequel… PASS
TIER: 5
Blogging Chance: 0%

angelicmask: I actually checked the first season of this at first. Some of the characters are cute and there’s some interesting development, but I’m not sure I’m quite ready for such a big leap into yaoi just yet.

anritsi: I heard the first season was good. But… but… T_T

ph33lth3lov3: I’m not really into Yaoi, but they all look so sweet!

Kannagi

Genres: Supernatural, Romance, Comedy

Story: Our unlucky protagonist, Jin, uses the trunk of a sacred tree to carve a statue for a school project. When he takes it outside, to his surprise it begins absorbing the surrounding earth and transforms into, hold your breath on this one, a girl! So like all similar setups this guardian deity is pretty pissed that her tree was cut down and lives with Jin while she takes out her anger on squashing bugs….er, cleaning the “Impurities”.

Thoughts: I checked out the manga for this show a little while back, and it caught my interest.  It has a light romance feel with some decent comedy.  Not to mention, good artwork.  It looks like the anime adapts the manga faithfully.
TIER: 2
Blogging Chance: 70-75%

angelicmask: This one also sounds a little trite. Looks cute, though. There’s potential.

anritsi: The name reminds me of Bleach anime. *cough*

ph33lth3lov3: This sounds cute! I will watch.

Kemeko DX!

[no decent image available]

Genres: Sci-Fi, Romance, Comedy

Story: The story centers on a typical high school boy and a super-deformed, doll-like robot that suddenly appears in his bedroom. The robot declares itself to be the boy’s wife, and only then does a beautiful girl emerge out of the robot’s mouth. The girl turns out to be someone who was promised the boy’s hand in marriage ten year earlier.

Thoughts: This’ll probably be one of those shows, that I would’ve checked out, if there weren’t so many other good shows that I was interested in.
TIER: 3
Blogging Chance: 30-35%

angelicmask: It sounds like something I’d be interested in, as far as genres go. I’m curious to see how a plot will develop from this.

anritsi: more robots? -.-”

ph33lth3lov3: I’ll wait, but it sounds good too.

Kurogane no Linebarrels

Genres: Sci-Fi, Mecha, Drama

Story: Kouichi Hayase was involved in an accident and falls into a coma for half a year. Due to this accident he becomes depressed and lonely. However, unbeknownst to him he attained a great power and three years later a giant robot (Linebarrel), which was the cause for the incident, appears before him, causing Kouichi`s life to change.

Thoughts: I already saw the first episode at Anime Expo. (You can find my review here). The first episode definitely wasn’t doing it for me. And yes… GONZO uses CGI mechs again.  It also appears that the anime doesn’t faithfully adapt the manga.  I dunno, initially, I was interested… but after that first episode…
TIER: 3
Blogging Chance: 40-45%

angelicmask: The premise sounds interesting, but I’m not a huge mecha fan. So I sorta don’t plan on watching it, unless people tell me it’s amazing.

anritsi: robots again.

ph33lth3lov3: Mecha’s are cool, but not really my favorite cup o’ tea… So I’ll pass unless it’s gonna change my life.

Kuroshitsuji

Genres: Supernatural, Fantasy, Comedy

Story: Yana Toboso draws the original Kuroshitsuji manga about Sebastian Michaels, an impeccable butler who can carry out practically any task his master requires of him — partly because he is a demon. His current master is Ciel, the Phantomhive family head who is smart, business-savvy, and all of 12 years old.

Thoughts: My first impressions when I saw this was that it was a shoujo version of Hayate no Gotoku! This isn’t really the story that makes me go “I’m really interested”
TIER: 4
Blogging Chance: 25%

angelicmask: Demon butler meets Artemis Fowl? Seems interesting. I really like the gothic feel of the art, too. Something I’ll probably check out.

anritsi: I saw the raws earlier, and I like the art.

ph33lth3lov3: A demon controlled by a no-nonsense 12 year old? hmm… I am interested but not deeply so.

Kyou no Go no Ni (TV)

Genres: School Life, Kids, Ecchi

StoryA school-life comedy with anecdotes about fifth-graders focusing on Ryota Satou and his friendships, especially his childhood relationship with Chika Koizumi. It has sexual connotations of various sorts, and can be considered an ecchi show that is unintended. The manga series is short, consisting of only twenty-three eight to ten page chapters and collected together in a single bound volume. (Taken from THAT Animeblog)

Reason(s) to Watch: Fans of the OVA will probably tune into this show. Before people get alarmed by the “Kids” and “Ecchi” in the genres… note that it’s sort of a “clean ecchi” in which the fanservice shown is not at all supposed to be interpreted in a sexual manner.

Thoughts: So, I enjoyed the OVA.  However, word is that the TV adaptation will have an entirely different cast and crew.  WIth that, comes the possibility of a loose adaptation.  Indeed the artwork shown on the official site doesn’t seem like the Kyou no Go no Ni we’re used to.
TIER: 2
Blogging Chance: 60-65%

angelicmask: Eh, I’m not sold on the concept. If they put it in there, that’s how the innuendo is gonna be interpreted. And there’s only so much of that I can take.

anritsi: Elementary schoolers? I’m still trying to get out of watching Card Captor Sakura. :3

ph33lth3lov3: awww they look cute! I could take this as a buffer in between Hell Girl and other more “serious” animes.

Macademi Wasshoi!

Genres: Supernatural, Ecchi, Comedy

Story: No Summary Available

Thoughts: Loli, ecchi, no summary… I’ll skip on this
TIER: 4
Blogging Chance: 10-15%

angelicmask: Same as Tekky.

anritsi: Whee, magic schools. I wonder if they’re elementary age. o.o

ph33lth3lov3: the poster is cute.. but I have no idea what it is about…

Michiko to Hatchin

Genres: Adventure, Action

Story: The title’s Michiko is a free-willed “sexy diva” who destroys a supposedly inescapable prison fortress, while Hatchin is a girl fleeing her strict foster parents. The two join forces on an improbable escape to freedom.

Reason(s) to Watch: If Akasaka has the most decorated voice cast, Michiko has the most decorated crew.  From the music director of Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop, to the director of Ergo Proxy.

Thoughts: Now I wasn’t the biggest fan of Samurai Champloo and Ergo Proxy failed to interest me.  And yeah, first impressions of Michiko indicate that this isn’t the type of anime for me.
TIER: 4
Blogging Chance: 15%

angelicmask: Yeah, that summary isn’t doing much for me either.

anritsi: Depends on the amount of fan service.

ph33lth3lov3: Maybe the music will be good to tune into…

Nodame Cantabile Paris Chapter

Genres: Romance, Comedy, Music

Story: 2nd Season of the Nodame Cantabile series.

Reason(s) to Watch: Fans of the first season will probably watch this.

Thoughts: If I were to have made this season preview a week earlier, I would’ve said that I wasn’t interested in this show.  Since then however, I’ve watched the first 5 episodes of the first season… and I was hooked.  I’ll probably check out this season once i finish the first.
TIER: 2.5 (Have to finish the first season)
Blogging Chance: 50%

angelicmask: Loved the first season, so I’m definitely watching this.

anritsi: @_@ omg nodame~ Still have to finish watching the first season, heh.

ph33lth3lov3: Paris! Drama in Paris! Drama in Paris in Japanese! It’s an international spectacular! Will watch, but like Tekky, after the first season is completed.

Noramimi 2

Genres: Comedy

Story: The anime is based on Kazuo Hara’s comedy manga in which mascot characters live and work among humans. Agencies have been set up to train mascots to babysit children and then to place the mascots within families. Noramimi is one such mascot at the Hello Kids branch office #59. Unfortunately, no family wants to adopt a mascot born from a demon (oni) family, so he is stuck living at the agency.

Thoughts: A comedy about mascots? There was a show that was airing in the states last fall called Cavemen, and it failed miserably. I’ll pass on this one.
TIER: 4
Blogging Chance: 5%

angelicmask: This just looks and sounds too weird. I don’t plan on watching.

anritsi: *looked at art* *wandered off*

ph33lth3lov3: Okay, robots in society, fine. Mechas in society, fine. MASCOTS IN SOCIETY? WHAAA? Reminds me of Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, though, so I might give it a shot. It could be cute!

Ride Back

Genres: Sci-Fi, School, Mecha

Story: Ride Back tells the story of a girl and her “iron horse” robot motorcycle in 2020, a tumultuous time of anti-government student protests.

Thoughts: The lack of decent promotional images doesn’t shed a promising light on this anime.  With not enough hype, I’ll probably hear the reviews of the first few episodes from other blogs before checking this one out.
TIER: 3
Blogging Chance: 25%

angelicmask: Eeeeeh, I dunno. It doesn’t particularly strike my interest.

anritsi: More robots?? srsly?? srsly???

ph33lth3lov3: That could be interesting… I haven’t seen a mecha combined with protest.

Rosario+Vampire Capu2

Genres: Romance, Ecchi, Vampire

Story: Continuation of the story about a human boy forced to go to a school for monsters.

Thoughts: Eh… after surviving the first few episodes of To-LOVE-Ru and Kanokon… I’m going to steer clear of the heavy ecchi shows.
TIER: 5
Blogging Chance: 0%

angelicmask: Didn’t watch the first season and also not a fan of major ecchi. So it’s not gonna happen.

anritsi: Couldn’t get past the first season. ><

Shikabane Hime: Aka

Genres: Martial Arts, Horror, Action

Story: The “Corpse Princess” of the title is Makina Hoshino, an undead girl who hunts down 108 corpses in order to go to heaven. The original manga runs in Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine, and seven volumes have been compiled so far.

Reason(s) to Watch: GAINAX’s first TV series since the insanely popular Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Thoughts: The problem with making an incredibly popular show… is the follow up.  All eyes are on GAINAX to see what happens.  Unfortunately, history indicates that GAINAX has issues when it comes to manga adaptations.  I’ll take a look to see how the show turns out.
TIER: 2
Blogging Chance: 70-75%

angelicmask: Bleach meets Soul Eater … sorta. (The guy in the picture even sorta looks like Ichigo.) Eh, sounds okay, but not so sure about it. We’ll see how it pans out.

anritsi: Yay fighting. Yay fighting against zombies. ^^;

ph33lth3lov3: It sounds like they have quite the shoes to fill… following a successful manga and their own success with Gurren Lagann. Mindless killing usually isn’t my thing, but we’ll see why she’s doing it. If it’s legit, then I’ll be interested.

Skip Beat

Genres: Romance, Shoujo, Comedy

Story: The story revolves a teenaged girl named Kyōko who followed her childhood friend Shō to Tokyo as he pursues his dream of becoming a star. Despite playing housekeeper and taking care of Shō, Kyōko overhears Shō dismissing her as a boring nobody. Furious, Kyōko vows to also become a singer and defeat Shō.

Reason(s) to Watch: Popular shoujo manga, apparently has a strong female lead.

Thoughts: A little while back, I was in a shoujo manga reading spree… and I forgot to read this title.  I’m mixed bag when it comes to watching the anime.  It could go like Special A (with it’s crossover appeal) or like Itazura na Kiss… which failed to impress. I really don’t think anything I say will stop the shoujo fans from checking this show out.
TIER: 3
Blogging Chance: 30-35%

angelicmask: I checked out the manga a while back and it seemed interesting enough. I’m not totally thrilled by the artwork … but I’ll at least check it out.

anritsi: Miyano Mamoru will voice in it. Auto +30% Hm. I might’ve read the manga. I really can’t remember. *scratches head* whaat?? There are a lot of idol manga out there! >_<

ph33lth3lov3: I hope she can beat him at his own game! 🙂 If this is like any of the other musical animes I have seen, it should be pretty good. I do love the musics.

Tales of the Abyss

Genres: Fantasy, Drama, Adventure

Story: The anime takes place in the world of Auldrant, a planet composed of “Fonons”. It is a material energy found in all things. Long ago, a new kind of Fonon was discovered, but great chaos was brought with the finding. By using this newest Seventh Fonons, one could read the future. Luke von Fabre is the son of Duke Fabre of the Kimlasca Kingdom at 17 years old. Naive and impulsive, he is forbidden to go out of the house. This is due to a kidnapping seven years ago where he lost his memories. However, Tear Grants, a mysterious girl, suddenly appeared in Luke’s mansion to kill her brother Van Grants for a reason unknown. As she stumbled unto Luke, they reacted with a magic explosion and they were transported out of the mansion. This is the start of the journey as Luke discovered many uncomfortable truths of his existence and the world… (Taken from THAT Animeblog)

Thoughts: Tower of Druaga was okay… World Destruction was a flop… I think I’m going to take a break from RPG Anime adaptations for this season…
TIER: 4
Blogging Chance: 25%

angelicmask: It sounds interesting as a standalone from the game (not that I know the game at all). Perhaps there is promise, though I suppose past trends don’t predict so.

anritsi: Fantasy anime~ well, we’ll see.

ph33lth3lov3: interesting concept! I am curious to see as to whether the secrets to the world are revealed as you go, or in later episodes, since there seems to be a future/time travel element. I have no experience with the game, however, so I have prior conceptions for the show.

Tears to Tiara

Genres: Fantasy, Adventure

Story: In a world resembling the middle-age. A girl, Riannon, is set to be sacrificed to appease a resurrected demon lord, Arawn. As her brother Arthur attempts to rescue her, Arawn defies those who resurrected him and frees Riannon from her captors, which leads to Riannon admiring him. This eventually leads to a party of companions being assembled for adventure, with Arawn acting as the leader.

Thoughts: Same team that worked on Utawarerumono. And there is no confirmation that this’ll actually air in the fall.  Sad, cause I’m interested.

angelicmask: This actually sounds pretty interesting. Something to check out eventually.

anritsi: One of the girls looks like soi fon. Soi fon is great. *goes off into a tangent*

ph33lth3lov3: A middle-ages anime? Cool! I want to know more about it.. but if it doesn’t air there’s not much I can do about that.

Tentai Senshi Sunred

[No Decent Image Found]

Genres: Comedy, Parody

StoryThe story revolves around the hero Sunred’s battles against General Vamp and his shadowy group of minions in a spoof of classic Japanese anime and live-action special-effects shows.

Thoughts: I really can’t excited about a show that doesn’t have a detailed summary or promotional images…

angelicmask: Uh, I’m not huge on spoof shows. So this isn’t gonna work.

anritsi: I don’t know enough about Japanese culture to really get Japanese satire. =/

ph33lth3lov3: ditto that, Tekky.

Titania

Genres: Space, Psychological, Military

Story: Stellar Callendar, Year 446. The capital of the Empire of Euria is attacked by the Empire of Titania, his much more powerful enemy who controls a large part of the galaxy. This harsh battle planted in the minds of a small group of persons ideas of rebellion…

Thoughts: Space opera fans will probably check this one out. As for me? I’ll wait for the first episode reviews before I’ll view it.

angelicmask: Code Geass … IN SPACE! Just a bit, at least.

anritsi: Will only watch if it starts getting raves.

ph33lth3lov3: Pretty promo pic! That has me interested, but I’ll let Tekky watch it first and tell me how it is.

To Aru Majutsu no Index

Genres: Magic, Shounen, Action

Story: Set in a city of scientifically advanced superhuman students, but in a world where magic is also real. Toma Kamijo’s right hand, the Imagine Breaker, will negate all magic, psychic, or divine powers, but not his own bad luck. One day he finds a young girl hanging on his balcony railing. She turns out to be a nun from the Church of England, and her mind has been implanted with the Index-Librorum-Prohibitorum – all the magical texts the Church has removed from circulation.

Thoughts: The shounen action addition to the fall season.  The manga is pretty interesting with likable characters and good artwork.  The anime’s trailer seems to indicate that they adapted that good artwork.  I look forward to reigniting the shounen fanboy in me.

angelicmask: The premise sounds interesting and the good artwork is a plus. We’ll see how it goes.

anritsi: Nothing beats saving documents in peoples’ heads. I wish I could do that with my math book.

ph33lth3lov3this is interesting, but I don’t totally understand the concept behind it. I think I would like it, since I enjoy shows with both science and a fantasy element. ^_^ (FMA, Soul Eater, Code Geass, etc)

Toradora!

Genres: Romance, Comedy, School

Story: Toradora!’s story begins with the male protagonist Ryūji Takasu who is frustrated at trying to look his best as he enters his second year of high school. Despite his gentle personality, his eyes make him look like an intimidating delinquent so he is utterly hopeless about his chances of getting a girlfriend anytime soon, and does not have many close friends either. After being greeted by his hungover mother in the morning, Ryūji goes to school and is happy to find that he gets to be in the same class as his best friend Yūsuke Kitamura and crush Minori Kushieda. However, it is then that he unexpectedly knocks into “the school’s most dangerous animal of the highest risk level” — Taiga Aisaka — who just happens to also be in his class, and is a good friend of Minori.

Reason(s) to Watch: Tsundere fans will love the light novel, and probably the anime adaptation as well, unless JC Staff changes the plot on us.  And speaking of a JC Staff tsundere visual novel adaptation, surprise surprise, Kugimiya Rie voices Aisaka Taiga.

Thoughts: I liked Shana, Zero no Tsukaima, and Hayate. Toradora! brings in Kugimiya Rie’s 4th typecast as a tsundere school girl.  But besides that, I was excited about this show well before the cast list was announced. I’ve been reading the light novels and I’m interested to see how it all looks animated.

angelicmask: Eh, I checked out the manga and was only mildly impressed. Story seems trite from what I read. Probably appeals more to a niche audience.

anritsi: Yay shoujo. Yay guy bashing. LOL, I kiiid.

ph33lth3lov3: This could be really cute!

Vampire Knight: Guilty

Genres: Romance, Vampires, Drama, Shoujo

Story: Second season and continuation of the Vampire Knight anime adaptation.

Reason(s) to Watch: Arguably, the most popular shoujo manga out in circulation, manga and first season fans will probably keep watching.

Thoughts: It’s the return of emo-Zero and the angst-filled vampires!  I’ll admit, the manga is definetly engaging with a complex story… but the anime might’ve brought out the emotions a bit too much.  After 7 or so episodes, the first season went to my “On-Hold” list and hasn’t come out since.

angelicmask: Yes, I, like many, have joined the swarms of vampire-crazy fangirls. Sure Zero seems emo, but it’s that sort of emotion that I feed off. Not necessarily emo-ness, but apparent mental struggle and the promise of major twists and complexity. You know, characters with a bit of depth.

anritsi: omg~omg~omg~*hyperventilates**dies*

ph33lth3lov3: I TOTALLY DISAGREE, TEKKY! You aren’t their target audience. I have a feeling that this next season of Vampire Knight will be just as rewarding as the first. After the last episode of the season, I desperately checked to see if I had made a mistake and there were actually more. This is the anime I’m most excited for next season.

Yozakura Quartet

Genres: Supernatural, Comedy, Action

StoryAkina, Hime, Kotoha and Ao are four members of the Hiizumi Seikatsu Soudan Jimusho (Hiizumi’s Everyday-life Consultation Office), which in addition to helping kindergartners deal with tough times, strives to preserve the peace of their little town, Sakurashin, by hunting down the troublemakers who dare threaten it.

Thoughts: This is another show that a lot of people are talking about, and it definitely has my interest.  I’ll probably check out the first episode out of curiosity.

angelicmask: Seems moderately interesting, if not a bit trite. And is it just me or does that picture have some Eureka 7 vibes to it? A little?

anritsi: How is this supernatural? I don’t get it.

ph33lth3lov3: Interesting concept, kindergarten teachers who hunt down troublemakers. I’d like to see if this is any good.

titanfall online timer

Be wary however, as getting your titan makes players
forget their roles, and may try to go on a killing spree as opposed
to sticking to the plan. Nonetheless, there are widely common games playable on both gaming consoles.
Within these three game modes there are sadly only two stages right
now, “Angel City” and “Fracture”, both are City environments, but Angel City is a cluttered Dystopian like city, while Fracture
is more on the line of jagged terrain and slightly open fields military base type of stage.
