Zero no Tsukaima ~Princess no Rondo~ – Episodes 09 – 11

25 09 2008

Summary (09)

The episode begins with the Ondine Knights searching for something when a nude girl drops forn the sky onto Malicorne in the same fashion as when Louise lands on Saito in the opening. Louise kicks Saito in the groin and sends him to the ground then proceeds to ask the girl why she is naked. She introduces herself as Irukukwu. She keeps talking about saving her older sister until Guiche asks her about her older sister, who turns out to be Tabitha. She says how Tabitha was taken as a traitor and stripped of her chevaliar title and how Tabitha’s mom was arrested. She continues to tell that Tabitha went to save her mom, but was captured in the process. When Irukuwku asks for help, Malicorne and Saito volunteer promptly, but the others doubt her status as Tabitha’s younger sister(on the face that Tabitha is pretty flat-chested and that Irukuwku has huge tits). Irukukwu thinks about obtaining proof and rushes out of the door. The Ondine Knights rush out of the door as well, only to find that Irukukwu has vanished. Not long after, Sylphid appears and testifys for Irukukwu. Saito, Guiche, Malicorn and Louise go to Henrietta to ask for permission to go and rescue Tabitha, which she denies on the grounds that as her personnal knights, if Tabitha is rescued by the Ondine Knights, as she is considered a criminal, the rescue could be percieved as an act of aggression on Tristan’s part. In response, Saito, Guiche and Malicorn resign as knights in order not to trouble Tristan, and Henrietta responds by having them arrested. Louise asks Henrietta what she thinks of Saito as a man not a chevalier, and Henrietta admits that she is not sure if she has fallen for Saito or simply needs someone to lean on. Louise gives up her position as a noble, declaring that she wants to help Tabitha, to repay her for all the times Tabitha has saved her. Henrietta has no choice but to have her arrested as well. After trying, unsuccessfully, to dig their way out of the prison with spoons, the four get rescued by Kirche and Colbert. Irukukwu reveals that she is really Slyphid, which is a rhyme dragon and capable of transforming into a human form. (From Wiki)

Summary (10)

Saito and company take refugee in the Charming Fairy Inn while the search for them continues. A plan is created to use the Ostland to fly towards Germinia as a decoy, while Saito goes across the border directly. Scarron provides disguises for them, while Colbert, Seista, Gimli and Reinard proceed to liberate the Ostland. Siesta shows doubts at first of not having any powers but gets encouraged by Saito that she could still help. She hugs him so Louise kicks him in the groin from behind. In Gallia, Joseph and Sheffield uncover a massive object, which Joseph calls Jormungand, covered with pulsing veins and with a single large eye. Posing as a travelling circus, Saito and company cross the border, while Louise broods over no longer being an aristocrat, realising she only has Saito left. Back at the castle, using Siesta as a distraction, Gimli and Reinard take out two guards and they board the Ostland, after dispatching two more groups of guards. Colbert quickly fires up the Ostland, eventually ripping free of the chains that are tying it down. Agnes falls for the ploy, ordering guards to watch the Germinia border. Louise sprains her ankle, and Saito tells her to rely on her, carrying her on his back. She wonders how Saito is so strong, despite being alone in this world. The Ostland is eventually stopped by Tristan dragon knights, and Agnes nearly kills Colbert upon seeing him. Meanwhile, Saito and company arrive in Gallia. (From wiki)

Kirche reveals that she knows the Louise is a void mage, and apologises for her past behaivor, and invites her over to Germania. Later on, Derflinger advises Saito to say something to her, saying that Void magic is dependant on emotional strength. Saito decides to do so, and finds her posing in front of a mirror in a dancing costume. Louise begins to tempt Saito, and Saito pushes her onto the bed, but they are interupted by Guiche. These 3 episodes seem to confirm that the central plot for the season involves rescuing Tabitha and stopping Joseph.  Unfortunately, that premise doesn’t look to be as epic as the previous seasons.  I mean in season one we had Saito’s eminent departure and return to Louise, season two had Saito taking on an army of 50,000.  Compared to that, this season’s finale looks to be quite sub-par.

Episode 9 was a return to what I loved about Zero no Tsukaima, interesting well-rounded characters, capable of development.  I was soo happy when Louise gave up her nobility to help Saito’s cause.  Not only that, but human-form Sylphid is über cute. (8.5/10)

Episode 10 seemed like more of a distraction from the main plot. I mean we had some development with Louise and Saito when Louise was dealing with the aftermath of losing her nobility.  At this point, the story feels VERY rushed. (7.5/10)

Episode 11 was a mix of fanservice and plot development.  The scene w/ Louise leading Saito on was unexpectedly amusing, even though it was obvious someone would walk in.  The actually Tabitha rescue was INCREDIBLY rushed.  I really wanted to see an epic battle between Tifa and Bidashal… i feel cheated. (7.5/10)

So it doesn’t look like ZnT is headed down a good path into the final episode… we shall see soon enough.

Zero no Tsukaima ~Princess no Rondo~ – Episode 08

2 09 2008

Continuing from last week, most of the student are amazed by Colbert-sensei’s flying fortress, however Louise and Saito are simply happy that Colbert is alive.  When asked about how he survived, he simply stated that he faked his death using magic.  Afterwards, he created the ship and was in the process of testing it around the school area, when they saw Saito fighting with Sheffield.  As such, he helped out.

Saito’s mind is wrapped up in Tabitha’s appeared betrayal from the night before.  Louise spots him (having no knowledge about Tabitha) and thinks he’s thinking about Henrietta.  When she confronts him about it, Saito avoids the topic making her more suspicious.  Around the same time Henrietta shows up to welcome back Colbert and thanks him for saving Louise.  Colbert mentions Saito is the one who saved her.  The result is an awkward thanks from Henrietta.  Siesta, who was with Louise at the time pestering her about the bet, immediately catches on that something happened between Saito and Henrietta.

Secretly, Siesta and Louise plan a way for Saito to reveal what exactly happened between them.  Tiffa walks in and gets involved.  Tiffa offers a special magnifying glass which reveals the past night’s events when pointed at any guy.  Louise reluctantly agrees to use it.

Saito and Colbert are talking about the ship, when Saito notices a blue dot moving around them.  He looks up and notices Louise, Siesta, and Tiffa pointing the magnifying glass at him.  Derflinger mistakes the glass for another magical item that strips a man of his clothes when used.  Panicked, Saito flees further enraging Louise.

The chase continues for some length of time with come near captures of Saito.  Finally, Saito is captured in the bridge of the ship (after stumbling across Colbert and Kirche in a… compromising position).  Louise uses the glass, and rather then discovering about Henrietta disguising herself as Louise at the ball, she finds out about Tabitha and Saito’s fight.  Immediately, everyone is confused as to why she would do this.  Kirche offers a possible explanation.

During the revolt against Gallia’s royal family, Tabitha’s father was killed, and Tabitha, herself, was the target of poisoning.  However, her mother protected Tabitha and took the poison instead, sending her into madness.  To protect her mother, Tabitha joined the knights for the new royal family, and as such, she’s frequently forced to do dangerous tasks for the Gallian kingdom.  One of these tasks was to help capture Louise.  However, as Louise wasn’t captured, Tabitha failed her mission, and her fate is now unknown.

Tabitha returns to her mansion to find the place a mess.  She goes in and realizes that her mother is missing.  An elf, Vidashal, reveals himself and the fact that Tabitha’s mother is at the Gallian castle.  His magic (which is mentioned to be old magic) easily overpowers Tabitha’s magic as well as stops Sylphid’s attack.

Louise and Saito go to Henrietta and inform her of what happened with Tabitha.  Saito wishes to go into Gallia and save Tabitha, however Henrietta makes him make an unusually personal promise that he won’t do anything dangerous.  The tone in Henrietta’s voice trips Louise off about her possible feelings for Saito… However, she doesn’t reprimand Saito or do anything for that matter because she promised to trust him…

Despite using a dues ex machina as a reason for why Colbert is back, I really enjoyed this episode.  One of the best of this season.  Why?  Plot and relationship progression.  On the surface, it looked like a normal episode Zero no Tsukaima that went in a plot circle.  However, there were some major developments.

Zero no Tsukaima is billed as a harem show… however, when you look at it, all the people who like Saito (besides Louise) are either extremely horny (Kirche and Siesta), or are perfectly fine being friends (Tiffa).  This episode introduces a true love triangle with Henrietta being the first girl to genuinely like Saito besides Louise.  As such, unless they play down this, we could see some much needed drama coming soon.

As for plot progression, major revelations are made about Tabitha.  This season looks to be headed towards a “Let’s save Tabitha” mindset.  Which means, we can probably expect a season 4 since this season is headed into its final episodes.

Zero no Tsukaima ~Princess no Rondo~ – Episode 03

Due to how far I’ve fallen behind, I’m going to be redirecting episode summaries to other blogs…  Read the summary posted by Omni of Random Curiosity here.

Well this episode ended my complaint from last episode, about how we were introduced a character, Tiffania, and we weren’t given any information about her except that she saved Saito.  This episode was all about Tiffania and her past.

As expected, Tiffania did resurrect Saito using a special ring given by her mother.  Now the question is whether there’s a tie to the resurrection ring from last season.  And of course, how does all this tie into the current villain.

Other then that, the improvements keep racking up.  Looks like Louise’s onslaughts have finally affected Saito, as he saves himself from being involved in a potential misunderstanding.  This also shows how strong their relationship has gotten. Finally I have to agree that caped Saito looks awesome.

8.5/10 (Good episode with plenty of backstory)

Zero no Tsukaima ~Princess no Rondo~ – Episode 02

16 07 2008

After finding out that Saito is no longer Louise’s familiar, Siesta tags along w/ them to try to convince Saito to stop living with Louise and live out on his own.  Siesta tended to get very… persuasive…  Louise, as usual, gets jealous and beats Saito up.

At night, Saito tries to make up w/ Louise but it’s to no avail.  Both of them understand that their fight is probably caused by the uncertainty of what might happen if Louise performs a resummoning.  The thought of summoning another strikes deeply with both of them.  To help out, Agnes gets Saito to spar with her so that he can at least try to protect Louise without Gandalfr.

The next day, the search for Tiffania continues… but ends rather quickly, when Saito spots her in the distance.  Tiffania is overjoyed to meet Saito again, but Louise and Siesta have problems… namely with her gravity defying bust.  Later that night, Louise goes off on both Saito and Tiffania, but primarily Tiffania.  She accuses Saito of searching for Tiffania only because of her breasts, and eventually starts fondling them in order to prove that they are fake.  Saito steps in and defends Tiffania, insisting that he went to look for her because she saved his life.  Louise, annoyed, storms off into the woods.

Louise understands that she’s the one at fault yet can’t get herself to apologize.  While moving around, she bumps into Siesta.  The two of them form a temporary alliance against Tiffania.  However, the alliance becomes a side issue when Shefield attacks.  With Saito nowhere around, the two of them are stuck on the defense.  Louise uses her “explosion” magic to holds the attacks off, but she know it can’t last forever.  Finally, running out of options, Louise begins the re-summoning ceremony.  Shefield, curious to see what would happen, stops the attacks to allow Louise to complete the spell.  Louise is frighted more then ever that it won’t be Saito to step through the warp.  This fear is soon dispelled when Saito falls through.  Shocked that Louise was able to summon the same familiar twice, Shefield retreats.  Saito and Louise complete the summoning ceremony (aka kiss) and Saito (with some pain) regains Gandalfr.

So that arc was done pretty quickly.   I thought that Saito would spend a good 4-5 episodes without his runes and truly turn into a good fighter.  But oh well, this works too.  Even with their fight, it was good to see Louise and Saito’s relationship stronger then it was in Season 2.  Another thing that was changed for the better, Saito doesn’t go apes*** whenever he sees Siesta’s breasts anymore, I mean he still has a slight unfavorable reaction, but it’s to be expected from a straight guy put in his position.

They didn’t talk too much about Tiffania, except about her breasts, which was kind of a shame.  I was curious as to HOW she brought Saito back from the dead.  Looks like that’ll be a big theme this season.  And I suspect it has something to do with that undead ring that was introduced last season.

I still feel this is the strongest season yet, and it’s looking to be a lot more plot intensive.  Good and funny episode through and through
