Anime Reviews: Tsubasa – Tokyo Revelations OVA

11 05 2009

See if this makes sense to you: in order to get out of my withdrawal of CCS (in which there are no more BD raws until June), I decide to pick up Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles again (which I had left of chapter 26).  It’s like I’m fighting an addiction w/ another addiction.  Only difference was that CCS was crazy good, while TRC (for at least the first 100 chapters) was, at best, meh.  A lot of people have probably mentioned that before.. however most of them also are in agreement that the “takeoff point” for this series, is the  Tokyo (or Acid Tokyo) arc.  Tokyo Revelations, is an OVA adaptation (done by Production I.G.) and I’ll be talking about that. I am utterly and hopelessly addicted to Cardcaptor Sakura

Four Reasons Why I Love CCS

So if you guys didn’t know, I’m in charge of picking the shows at UCLA’s anime club.  This week we had a special screening in which all the shows we watched were from before 2000 (or remakes of shows from before 2000).  We had a lot of fun stuff: Ashita no Joe, Digimon Adventure.  I decided to put in one older shoujo show for kicks, and I chose Cardcaptor Sakura.  Of all the people who could’ve gotten hooked off the first episode… I never predicted that I’d be one of them. Hanasakeru Seishounen Episode 3

29 04 2009

Hello friends!  Here I am again with another episode of Hanasakeru Seishounen.  Sorry it’s been so long.  In this episode we continue to plumb the bizarre depths of Eugene’s suicidal tendencies and Kajika’s…attachability?  Li Ren is pissed at Eugene and locks Kajika up to keep her from seeing him, some weird business stuff is going down in Malaysia, Eugene plots to get Kajika out, Li Ren sets the entire NYPD on them, Eugene is an exceedingly sad panda, Li Ren calms the fuck down, Kajika goes to Paris.  There’s your summary.  For bitchin’, continue on.

Winter Finale: Toradora!

21 04 2009

Toradora! started out as a light-hearted slice-of-life anime with good comedic moments and turned into a darker dramatic slice-of-life anime with good comedic moments. That is to say, even though the tone in the series turned much more serious sometime after episode 17, it did its best to retain the original comedic feel. The show did a good job of telling the story and showing us how the characters grew. Read the rest of this entry »

K-ON! – Episode 03

19 04 2009

1 Sentence Summary: “Yui Fails School… almost”.  Episode 3 was less about music, more about the Yui’s study habits and how it’s a disaster waiting to happen.  Once again, it’s scary how I’m able to pinpoint an aspect of my personality in one of these 4 girls (except that I’m a guy).  This time it’s procrastination aspect. Basquash! – Episode 02

19 04 2009

I’ve really gotta stop expecting the second episodes to be as good as the first ones.  The first episode is designed to be flashy in order to draw potential viewers in, while the second episode kicks the story off.  No difference here.  This episode was a lot slower, and a bit more standard for a shounen series. Spring 2009 Blogging Decisions

17 04 2009

OMG, it’s done… getting through all the pilot episodes that is.  I ended up watching nearly everything that started it’s run this season, and as far as first impressions go, I’m quite impressed.  This might just have to do w/ the fact that my expectations were low.. but wateva…   Read the rest of this entry »
